Accessibility at Tofte Lake Center

ACCESS STATEMENT

Tofte Lake Center believes that access to the arts and support for all artists is essential, and we affirm our support for making our programming accessible to as many people as possible, including those with physical, behavioral, and mental disabilities. People with disabilities have the right to access our programs and property and will not be denied equal enjoyment of our services and accommodations on the basis of their disability. We will continue to enhance opportunities for full participation in our programming and facilities for people with disabilities and ensure that their needs are taken into account in all elements of our organization.

In addition to our commitment to serving individuals with disabilities it is important to Tofte Lake Center to reach previously underserved groups including BIPOC artists, LGBTQ+ artists, parent artists, and emerging artists. Enabling these groups to participate in our residency experience is mutually beneficial — artists benefit from access to time and space to center their creative work and the broader community benefits from an interconnected worldview created by a diverse tapestry of artists.

HOW ACCESSIBLE ARE THE GROUNDS OF TLC?

Tofte Lake Center strives to be as accessible and accommodating as possible for all individuals and recognizes that this work is ongoing. TLC has one cabin that is wheelchair accessible, including a ramp to the building, two first floor bedrooms (one of which is wheelchair accessible), and an accessible bathroom (toilet and shower). Our communal building, performing and visual arts studios, and library are ramp accessible. While we are continuing to make improvements to access, the docks, lake front, and sauna remain inaccessible for wheelchair users at this time.

TLC sits on a rustic campus and therefore there are some physical challenges to be aware of for those with limited mobility, most notably uneven ground and rugged terrain (gravel paths and some hills). It is important to us to provide our artists with reasonable accommodations upon request to the best of our ability and we welcome feedback on how to make improvements from artists and audiences. Please email our managing director Riley Burns if you have specific access needs, questions, feedback, or considerations.
